Bill was Canadian soldier of the Black Watch Regiment of Canada, 3rd Canadian Division
When William Sinclair reached the Canadian lines, members of the Black Watch Regiment of Canada greeted him. Among them was Bill whom quickly befriended Sinclair.
During the attack along the Walcheren causeway, the Canadian Black Watch suffered heavy casualties and failed to dislodge the German forces who were well entrenched. Joe, another Canadian Black Watch soldier was badly wounded as Sinclair and Bill took cover behind tank traps. Sinclair and Bill attempted to drag Joe to safety, only for Bill himself to be wounded. Despite Sinclair's attempt to drag both of them to safety, Bill kicked him away as the Canadian Black Watch retreated.
